Decree for non-smoking in public places

 

   
President Bashar al-Assad issued on Sunday the 2009 legislative decree No 62 for preventing smoking and selling and providing tobacco products at certain public utilities mentioned in the decree (schools, universities, hospitals, buses, centers…etc).
The decree prevents smoking during meetings, conferences, lectures, training activities and official symposiums.
The authorized bodies at some places mentioned in the decree must provide a well-ventilated space for smokers.
On the other hand, the decree prohibits the production, exportation and importation of dessert, food and toys manufactured in a way similar to tobacco products and packets.
It also prevents the promotion and advertising of tobacco products and smoking and defines the penalties for violating its provisions.
